When practicing Land stewardship, the primary goal of the Land-Manager is to achieve a balance between landowner objectives and the ecologic health requirements of the land. Very frequently these goals and objectives overlap and are achievable by implementing scientifically sound, ecosystem-based management practices.

Process:
Site Mapping & Assessment
Through a combination of GIS (a software based geographic information & mapping system) and on-site surveying and analysis, TREC creates detailed and informative map sets for each of its management projects. These map sets highlight features such as property boundaries, walking trails, vegetation types, and wetlands, and can include a vast array of additional geographic information.
Data Collection & Inventory
Qualitative and quantitative data sets are collected while in the field from GIS analysis. These data sets vary depending on landowner objectives, though they typically include data, soil types, wetland locations, vegetation analysis, wildlife signs and habitats, and more. These data sets, along with detailed map sets, provide useful information to the landowner and land-manager that can be valuable aids in management decision-making.
Data Analysis & Site Quality Analysis
Quantitative and qualitative data for each site is analyzed by means of various ecologic modeling formulas, programs, and systems. This data is then catalogued and mapped, and provides the land-manager with a deep ecologic understanding of the site’s needs. This initial baseline set of data provides the foundation to begin moving forward with the creation of a management plan.
Creation & Implementation of Management Plan
With a thorough understanding of the site’s requirements for ecologic health and for the landowner’s primary goals and objectives, a comprehensive and long-term management plan is then created. This plan is implemented through a series of carefully designed ecologic prescriptions that are timed precisely to the environment and include a wide array of actions including various degrees of mowing, cutting, planting, and growing.
Continued Monitoring & Management Prescriptions
Ideally, routine monitoring will occur once every season, or at least once a year, in order to gauge the efficiency of prescriptions, vegetation growth rates and distribution, wildlife populations and abundance, as well as other measures of ecosystem health and the degree of success in achieving the landowner’s goals. The findings of these monitoring visits will determine the type and timing of future prescriptions and other management actions..
